Triangles by Ellen Hopkins review
*****ALERT: THIS BOOK IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN! ;) *******
“THREE FEMALE FRIENDS FACE MIDLIFE CRISES IN A NO-HOLDS-BARRED EXPLORATION OF SEX, MARRIAGE, AND THE FRAGILITY OF LIFE.Holly: Filled with regret for being a stay-athome mom, she sheds sixty pounds and loses herself in the world of extramarital sex. Will it bring the fulfillment she is searching for?Andrea: A single mom and avowed celibate, she watches her friend Holly’s meltdown with a mixture of concern and contempt. Holly is throwing away what Andrea has spent her whole life searching for—a committed relationship with a decent guy. So what if Andrea picks up Holly’s castaway husband?Marissa: She has more than her fair share of challenges—a gay, rebellious teenage son, a terminally ill daughter, and a husband who buries himself in his work rather than face the facts. As one woman’s marriage unravels, another’s rekindles. As one woman’s family comes apart at the seams, another’s reconfigures into something bigger and better. In this story of connections and disconnections, one woman’s up is another one’s down, and all of them will learn the meaning of friendship, betrayal, and forgiveness.Unflinchingly honest, emotionally powerful, surprisingly erotic, Triangles is the ultimate page-turner. Hopkins’s gorgeous, expertly honed poetic verse perfectly captures the inner lives of her characters. Sometimes it happens like that. Sometimes you just get lost.Get lost in the world of Triangles, where the lives of three unforgettable women intersect, and where there are no easy answers.”
IF YOUR HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ELLEN HOPKIN’S BOOKS BUT SOMETIMES FELT THEY WERE A BIT YOUNG FOR YOU THAT THEY ALWAYS REALLY GREAT SUBJECT SUBJECT MATTER BUT JUST NOT SUBJECT MATTER THAT EFFECTED YOU DIRECTLY?!? WELL THEN THIS BOOK IS SOOO FOR YOU! THIS IS HER ADULT ONLY BOOK. REALLY IT ISN’T 50 SHADES OF GREY RAUNCHY BUT IT DOES HAVE AND DEAL SEX AND SEXUAL MATTERS IN IT. IT IS STILL THE SAME WRITING STYLE THAT HOPKINS IS KNOWN FOR WHERE IT IS MULTIPLE CHARACTER STORIES AND THEY ARE ALL GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME AND ARE ALL DIFFERENT BUT DO EFFECT THE NEXT CHARACTERS STORY. AND WITH EACH “CHAPTER” YOU GO INTO A DIFFERENT CHARACTERS POINT OF VIEW. SHE ALSO STILL WRITES IN THE POET FORM WHERE HER WORDS NOT ONLY PAINT PICTURES WITH THEN IMAGERY BUT ALSO SOMETIME THEY PHYSICALLY MAKE PICTURES. SO YOU WILL NOT FIND THE BOOK DIFFERENT IN THAT MATTER WHICH CAN BE 50/50 FOR PEOPLE I MYSELF LOVE THE WAY SHE WRITES SO I WOULD HATE TO SEE HER CHANGE BUT I KNOW OTHERS DO LIKE TO SEE THEIR AUTHORS GROW AND SHOW DIFFERENT SKILLS AND SUCH. BUT THE SUBJECT MATTER IS REALLY A FIRST FOR THE AUTHOR AND THIS I ALSO LOVED. YOU GET TO SEE PRETTY MUCH WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ALL THE TEENAGE/HIGH SCHOOL ISSUES.
I LOVED THE BOOK. IT WAS SLIGHTLY STRANGE AT FIRST SINCE I TRULY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT I JUST SAW SHE HAD RELEASED A NEW BOOK AND SHE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS SOOO I AUTOMATICALLY GOT IT. SO IT DID TAKE ME A FEW “CHAPTERS” TO GET INTO IT SINCE IT WAS NOT HER NORMAL SUBJECT MATTER. BUT AFTER THAT WORE OFF I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN. I WILL SAY IT DOES HAVE SOME VERY SAD PARTS. I EVEN CRIED IN SOME PARTS, BUT I WILL NOT GO INTO DETAIL BECAUSE I DON’T WANNA RUIN ANY PART FOR ANYONE (AND I DO HAVE A HABIT OF GOING OVERBOARD ON DETAILS IF I REALLY LIKE SOMETHING LOL) SO ALL I WILL SAY YOU WILL CRY, GET ANGRY, SMILE, AND LAUGH OUT LOUD ALL WHILE READING THIS BOOK. AND IT IS SUCH A GREAT READ!
